EXAM WEEK

 INFORMED .   

*Exam Week: 101*

  • Beginning Tuesday, there will be no regularly scheduled classes.
  • Exams will be given according to the schedule below. Not all courses require a final exam...students should be aware if this is the case.
  • Parents, especially of children who don’t drive or have access to a car: please remember that during exam week, the expectation is that students are only in the school building when they have a scheduled exam. Please arrange rides for your student around his/her exam schedule.
  • Students who have time between two exams or arrive shortly before an exam begins can go to the cafeteria. 
  • Exam Schedule:
    • TUESDAY-
      •  8:00-9:50 1st Period Exam
      •  10:10-12:00 2nd Period Exam
    • WEDNESDAY-
      •  8:00-9:50 3rd Period Exam
      •  10:10-12:00 4th Period Exam
    • THURSDAY-
      •  8:00-9:50 5th Period Exam
      •  10:10-12:00 6th Period Exam
    • FRIDAY-
      •  8:00-9:50 7th Period and 0 Period Exams

  • TODAY!!! (Sat the 8th) - 
    • Noon - NCAA D1 Clearance Rally at the new D1 location (1014 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills).  Get cleared to play sports at the highest level. Learn core GPA  and ACT/SAT requirements on the NCAA Sliding Scale. Learn more here
  • MONDAY - 
    • 2018 PSAT SCORES RELEASED.  The College Board will release PSAT scores to Alabama students who took the test on October 10, 2018 (primarily, grades 9-11). Visit the HHS website for information on accessing and understanding your student's scores. 

Looking Ahead

  • Winter Break - Begins Sat Dec 15th. Students return on Thurs, Jan 3rd
  • Dec 21st - DEADLINE to purchase a yearbook. It can be done ONLINE.
  • Duke Summer Session applications are now open. Click the link to learn more about some of the transformative summer programs happening at Duke University. Apply online today to secure your spot. 
  • JANUARY 12th - Sadie Hawkins Dance, 7-10pm.  Details to follow in the New Year's Day newsletter.

 

*Grade-Level Announcements*

  9th -

  • CAREER INTEREST ASSESSMENTS and RESULTS - Tonya Mills, Freshman Guidance Counselor, has been visiting the freshman World History classes to discuss the importance of career development.  She shared a video about 16 career clusters, students completed career interest assessments, then they researched careers based on assessment results using the Alabama Career Planning System.  This information will be used to help each student develop an individual 4 year educational plan. Parents are encouraged to create an account so you can see your student's results and discuss career choices with them.  In order to create a parent account:
    • Student needs to log into https://al.kuder.com
    • Click on "Welcome" in the top right corner
    • Choose "Account Settings" then scroll down to " My Parent Account"
    • Click on the pencil icon to access a screen which allows them to add parent name and contact information. 
    • Once this step is complete, you will receive an activation code by email or text message that will give you the ability to create a parent account.

  10th, 11th & 12th - 

  • PHARMACY CAMP, ANYONE? Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy is offering a one week Pharmacy Camp this summer for rising 11th & 12th graders and incoming college Freshmen that are interested in investigating a career as a Pharmacist. Learn more about it here.  Space is limited so apply early.  The application deadline is February 1st.   Questions?
