This Week 

  • MONDAY - NO SCHOOL!    Thank a Veteran today. 
  • WEDNESDAY - 
    • During all study periods - The Academy of Craft Training will be on campus to share information about their program.  
  • FRIDAY - 
    • 11:30-1 pm 2nd Annual Chili Cook-off grant fundraiser sponsored by the PTO (details in "INVOLVED"section below)
    • DUE  -  Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) applications for anyone interested in being the HHS representative at a leadership conference in May.  see "A Great Opportunity" section below for details
  • EVERY DAY - HERE'S THE LIST of students who still have paid-for Homecoming shirts hanging out in Mrs. Kreider's room (241). Pick up during 5th period.

  • Nov 28th - "E-Cigs and Vapes" - Parenting program sponsored by the Safe & Healthy Homewood Coalition, presented by John Stone. 11:30am-1:00pm, Homewood Board of Education

  • REPRESENT our school and attend a leadership seminar at Troy University, May 24 – 26, 2019.  
  • INTERESTED in being considered as the HHS nominee? Following the instructions below, complete an essay and return it to Mrs. Brooks by THIS Friday, Nov 16th. 
    • Respond to the following writing prompt in 100 words or less:  Please describe the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a leader in your school and community.
    • After the writing prompt, include a list & very brief description of any leadership experience you have had in school or in the community while you have been in high school.
    • Your essay should be typed & double-spaced.
    • Include first and last name at the top right-hand corner of your essay.

  • DEADLINE -  Friday, Nov 16th to apply for the $10,000 Debbie Rice Memorial Scholarship The Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology (ALET) organization invites graduating seniors interested in pursuing a career in computer science, information technology, or other technology-related fields to apply. Follow the link for criteria and guidelines. 
  • PLEASE RETURN your senior portrait proofs to Belmont Studios. This must be done by December 1 in order for your portrait to appear in the yearbook!

PTO MEETINGS - COME ONE, COME ALL!

  • THIS Tues, Nov 13th, 11:30am at the Homewood Board of Education
  • November's meeting Agenda will be posted this weekend on the Main PTO and Class level Facebook pages (links at bottom of newsletter)

PTO EVENT - 2nd ANNUAL CHILI COOK OFF

   

WHEN:  Friday, November 16th  11:30am-1pm.

WHAT:  HHS teachers and staff will sample and vote on their favorite chili and the winner will be selected by the ballots. Tasters will be voting on taste, color, aroma, and aftertaste. HHS teachers had a great time last year so help us make this year even better!

WHY: Proceeds of this fabulous HHS PTO fundraiser will benefit a grant for a lucky HHS organization!

BUT...

We still need Competitors to sign up to bring a batch of their favorite chili in a 2-3 quart crockpot and compete for the cash prize and bragging rights! (*There is a $25 entry fee for competitors-checks can be made payable to HHS PTO.)

We are also in need ofVolunteers to supply some of our “side fixin’s” like sour cream, shredded cheese, cornbread and water bottles. Volunteers can sign up via the HHS PTO member portal or contact Megan Wyatt, Hospitality Co-Chair, (mugsyw@mac.com/205-807-3755) for more information.

The PTO will supply small cups and tasting spoons.  All other items, including Chili, should be delivered to HHS by 10:30am on Friday.
