***SPECIAL PTO ANNOUNCEMENT***

We've gone big time...just this week, we went live with the Homewood High School PTO YouTube channel. ï»¿We will now be able to post videos from monthly meetings and other PTO events in an effort to keep those unable to attend informed. Currently we have videos on student safety, diversity, and course selection presentations. Go check it out!

 

***SCHOOL-WIDE ANNOUNCEMENTS***

This Week 

  • WEDNESDAY the 20th - It's Course Selection time for 2019-2020!
    Students received course selection information in Study Talks last week.
    THIS LINK will launch to the HHS website with a YouTube presentation, selection documents and timeline information. Completed course selection forms needs to be returned to your student's study teacher by THIS WEDNESDAY! 
  • FRIDAY the 22nd - 'Teen Marijuana Use: Impact on the Developing Brain', an educational workshop hosted by The Safe & Healthy Homewood Coalition. Local pediatrician and addiction expert, Dr. Shannon Murphy, will be speaking from 11:30am-1:00pm at the Homewood Board of Education office. The program will be recorded.
  • SOON! - The yearbook staff is looking for pictures from the Macy's parade to fill some pages. E-mail them to Yearbook Advisor, Melissa Dameron Vines at mdameron-vines@homewood.k12.al.us. 

Looking Ahead

  • RETREAT Mar 1st-3rd - "Our Time" is a grief-support retreat for 6th-12th graders and their adult caregiver. A free resource for students and their caregivers who are healing from the loss of a significant person, such as a parent or special friend. This is a collaboration between Camp McDowell, UAB Pastoral Care department, and Ackerson & Associates.   • Through the End of March - The Menagerie, the school's literary arts magazine, is taking submissions. Students should ask their English teachers for submission forms.

 

***GRADE-LEVEL ANNOUNCEMENTS***

11th - 

  • TESTING Feb 20th - The ACT will be administered to all Juniors, at no cost.  You should have received a letter from the school via mail with details about the test and the testing day. 
  • DEADLINE Mar 3rd - To apply for the "Distinguished Young Women of Jefferson County", part of a national scholarship program that promotes and rewards scholarship, leadership and talent in young women.  Click HERE for more information and to apply. 

12th -  

  • PICK UP  - Balfour Senior Graduation Invitations have arrived and are in the guidance office. 
  • URGENT!!!IF your student hasn't ordered their cap and gown for graduation (would have done this in mid-October), then please do so as soon as possible by directly contacting Balfour (205-981-9868).  If you need to verify an order, please contact Balfour for that, as well!

***COLLEGE & CAREER*** 

  • FEBRUARY and MARCH are busy months for scholarship deadlines, special college campus events and college visitors at HHS! Use the NEWLY updated links below to make note of important dates on your calendars!
  • Considering a career in construction?Free training opportunity!  A 6-week summer course with carpentry, welding, masonry, electrical and HVAC training.

On Thurs, Feb 14th the PTO Hospitality Team and volunteers set a sweet spread for HHS teachers and staff.  A big thanks to everyone who donated time, food and funds! ï»¿It was an awesome success and the teachers/staff were so appreciative.
