*School-Wide Announcements*

Orphaned 

  • 215 Paid-for Homecoming Shirts still do not have a home!  Please take a look at THIS LIST and see if your student has a long-lost t-shirt that was purchased during registration. Pick up is during 5th period in Mrs. Kreider's room (241). 

This Week 

  • Mon, Oct 8th, 8AM - Parent Teacher Conference scheduling portal will go live on the HHS WebsitePlease do not save the actual sign-up link and attempt to revist the sign-up as it may not reflect accurate, up-to-date openings. Use the HHS Website link above, or access the school webpage directly through your browser. Parents who would like to schedule a conference with their student's teachers will be able to sign up for a 15 minute conference. (see Looking Ahead section below for conference time details).  A tutorial for how to use the sign up software will be available on the website as well.  The sign up portal will close on Wednesday, October 17th at noon.  
  • Mon - Fri, Oct 8th-12th - Make-A-Wish foundation Clothing and Household Goods Drive. We have been asked to participate in a competition with Chelsea high school that will be featured on several news stations.  During this week, students (and parents!) can donate gently used clothing items and household goods to large bins that will be placed at all three entrances to the school.  At noon on Friday, Make-A-Wish will come weigh the bins, and the winning school will be announced at the game against Chelsea on Friday night (the winning school will also receive a cash prize!).  This week is a great time to do some Fall cleaning and bring your donations to the school!
  • Thurs, Oct 11th -  Paying for College Workshop6pm at the Homewood Public Library.  The event is FREE, but registration is required.  There will be a representative from UAB to go over the FASFA and other important steps regarding financial aid. It's never too early to start understanding this process!
  • NOW - Powderpuff Football sign-ups  - 
    • Competition between the grade levels, with the winning team earning 500 points towards the school cup! 
    • Students must turn in a sign-up form with parent signature and cash/check for $20 to Mrs. Kreider's room (241) by Wed, Oct 17th 
    • Practice on Thurs, Nov 1st 5-6pm at the HHS Baseball field.
    • Games take place Thurs, Nov 8th 6-8pm at Weygand Stadium.

Looking Ahead

  • Thurs Oct 18th 3:30pm-6:30 & Fri the 19th 7:30am-11:00 -  Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on campus. See sign-up info in This Week section above. 
  • Oct 30th - "The United States of NUMB" - 8:30-10:00am, Homewood Board of Education. A parenting program sponsored by the Safe & Healthy Homewood Coalition, presented by Angela Camp from Bradford Health Services. Click HERE for online power point resource. 
  • On the Distant Horizon - The Menagerie, the HHS literary arts magazine, is currently taking submissions. Students who wish to submit their creative writing should pick up a submission form from their English teacher, the library, or Mrs. Dameron-Vines in room 306. Submissions will be accepted untilSpring Break.

  9th - 

  • Regarding Parent Teacher Conferences... Freshman conference times typically fill up quickly.  If a freshman conference time is not available, parents should contact Tonya Mills, the 9th grade counselor, at tmills@homewood.k12.al.us.  

10th-12th -

  • Regarding Parent Teacher Conferences...  If an individual teacher from grades 10 - 12 does not have a conference time available, parents should email the teacher directly to request a different date and time.  Teachers' email addresses can be found on the HHS website. 

  11th & 12th - 

  • TOMORROW, Sun, Oct 7th - Univ. of Alabama presentation 2pm at the Vestavia Hills Library. Find out about admissions, financial aid, housing, scholarships and more! Click UA link above for flyer details and to RSVP

  12th -  

  • OPEN NOW!!! - FAFSA for the 2018-2019 application at fafsa.gov
  • ORDER Wed, Oct 10th - Balfour Graduation Orders during 5th period study, in the Bailey Theater. Balfour will be onsitefor one day only to take orders and payments in full on cap and gown rentals (required), and optional items such as announcements, scrapbooks, t-shirts, etc. Otherwise, you may contact Balfour directly:  205-981-9868
  • DEADLINE - OCT 15th is the first typical college application deadline date. Others are Nov 1st, Nov 15th, Dec 1st, Dec 15th and Jan 1st. Between Midterms, Macy's Parade, Finals,  and the Holidays, dates can get lost in the shuffle.  Find that and other super-useful, stay-on-top-of-things information in the  Class of 2019 Fall Newsletter.
  • KNOW your SAT and ACT registration deadlines and test dates.  Class of 2019 Fall Newsletter has dates, deadlines, announcements, task lists, etc. to guide you through your Senior Fall.

  • Fri, Oct 12th - Spirit Gear Sales at the HOME football game vs Chelsea (shifts available from 20 min before the game until just before halftime) 
  • Thurs, Oct 18th - Parent Teacher Conference Snack Break  - The Hospitality Team is looking for volunteers to provide a variety of sweet and salty snacks - both homemade and store bought - to help our teachers maintain their conference schedule, uninterrupted.  Sign up online using link above. Items should be delivered to HHS on 10/18 before 3pm.
