Just So You Know

  • FUN FACT:  Ever feel like your student answers your questions about school with grunts and gestures? Same. No worries, though. You can go straight to the source by checking the Daily Announcements front and center on the Main Page of the HHS website. Not because you are a helicopter parent, but because it is hard to encourage a kid if you don't know what is happening in their environment. Now you know. 

This Week 

  • Friday, Oct 5th
    • Yearbook Cover Contest entries due.  Classic vs. Construction...See flyer for details. 
    • Navigating the Digital World: Our Children's Behavioral Health, 8:30am - 2pm Children's Harbor Building,  sponsored by Children's Hospital of Alabama.  ...See flyer for registration details. 

Looking Ahead

  • Thurs, Oct 11th -  Paying for College Workshop6pm at the Homewood Public Library.  The event is FREE, but registration is required.  There will be a representative from UAB to go over the FASFA and other important steps regarding financial aid. It's never too early to start understanding this process!
  • Oct 18th & 19th - Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on campus. A portal will be open Oct 8th - Oct 17th on the HHS Website for scheduling a 15 minute conference with your student's teachers. Details will be included in next week's newsletter.
  • Oct 30th - "The United States of NUMB" - 8:30-10:00am, Homewood Board of Education. A parenting program sponsored by the Safe & Healthy Homewood Coalition, presented by Angela Camp from Bradford Health Services. Click HERE for online power point resource.

  10th & 11th -

  • DEADLINE Mon, Oct 1st - Youth Leadership Forum - training young leaders by providing hands-on opportunities to learn about their community and themselves.  Applications online at www.ylfbham.org, or contact the YLF office at 205.252.6559 or susiea@ylfbham.

  11th & 12th - 

  • ATTEND Sun, Oct 7th - Univ. of Alabama presentation 2pm at the Vestavia Hills Library. Find out about admissions, financial aid, housing, scholarships and more! Click UA link above for flyer details and to RSVP

  12th -  

  • OPENS Mon, Oct 1st - FAFSA for the 2018-2019 application at fafsa.gov
  • ATTEND Mon, Oct 1st - Student  informational meeting re: graduationcosts during 5th period study, in the Bailey Theater. Balfour will be onsite to discuss cap and gown rentals (required), and optional items such as announcements, scrapbooks, t-shirts, etc. Information packets went home with students this past week. Balfour will return to campus Oct 10th for one day only to take orders and payments in full. Otherwise, you may contact Balfour directly:  205-981-9868
  • DUE Fri, Oct 5th - Senior Slideshow pictures for the Senior Pep Rally.
    • Please email no more than five pictures to hhs-sga@homewood.k12.al.us 
    • Submit pictures from elementary, middle, and high school of you and other students.
    • Only group photographs will be used 
    • Poor quality pictures, screenshots, snapchat pictures etc. will not be used.
  • DUE Oct 5th - Senior yearbook ad materials as well as Quotes and Accomplishments forms and information are available in the library, in senior English classrooms, and in the Senior Class course on Schoology.  Please contact Mrs. Dameron-Vines with any questions.
  • Class of 2019 Fall Newsletter with dates, announcements, task lists, etc. to guide you through your Senior Fall.

PTO MEETINGS - COME ONE, COME ALL!

  • Tues, Oct 9th -  next monthly meeting, held at the Homewood Board of Education Bldg located at 450 Dale Ave.
  • Future meeting dates and locations 
  • Pop on over to the HHS PTO Website, under the "Your PTO" tab , select the heading "Meeting Dates, Agendas and Minutes" where you'll find minutes and videos from last month's meeting
