*School-Wide Announcements*

This Week

  • TOMORROW, Sunday, Sept 16th -  1:00-4:00pm The National College Fair in Birmingham  @ the BJCC. FREE. Click link for list of participating colleges and to register ahead of time (recommended!)
  • DUE Friday, Sept 21st - Consent Form for the student flu shot clinic at HHS.  NO LATE FORMS ACCEPTED. Actual clinic is Oct 8th. The nasal mist version is an option as well. Click here for more details. Also, a formal e-mail was sent on Sept 10th, so check those Inboxes!

Looking Ahead

  • Tuesday, Sept 25th 6-8pm  -  Keeping our Daughters Safe  at the Junior League of Birmingham, provided by area schools and coalitions. Attendance is FREE, but please REGISTER HERE. Click title link for details. 
  • Friday, Sept 28th - Save the date for the After the Game Party at Trinity United Methodist Church, sponsored by the Safe & Healthy Homewood Coalition.  A fun, safe and drug-free opportunity for HHS students to hang out after the Homecoming game. All hands on deck!  Here are sign-ups for parent volunteers and food donations.
  • October 5th - Yearbook Cover Contest entries due.  Classic vs. Construction...See flyer for details. 

*Grade-Level Announcements*

  9th -

  • WED Sept 19th (Study A) or THUR Sept 20th (Study D) - The HHS Peer Helpers will meet with the freshman during their study period to discuss time management and how to get involved at HHS.  

  10th -   Please note Wed Sept 19th deadline for this announcement!

  • Capstone Leadership Academy - The University of Alabama Honors College provides an environment where exceptional students can thrive. Capstone Leadership Academy (CLA) features a slate of dynamic speakers and group activities for students to develop leadership skills.
    • One hundred sixty outstanding high school sophomores will be selected for this popular event on the University of Alabama campus.
    • The event will be held Feb 28 – Mar 1, 2019.
    • Potential applicants should have a G.P.A. of at least a 3.0 and write a brief essay on one of three of Capstone’s leadership themes – values, vision, and voice.
    • If you are interested in being considered for Capstone, please complete the essay and return to Mrs. Brooks no later than Wednesday, Sept 19, 2018

  10th & 11th -

  • Youth Leadership Forum - Do you want to make a difference? Be a leader? Change your community? Then it is time to apply to the Youth Leadership Forum(YLF). For over 30 years, YLF has been training young leaders by providing hands-on opportunities to learn about their community and themselves.  
    • Each year 44 high school sophomores and juniors are selected from all over Jefferson County to participate in YLF.  
    • See Ms. Brooks in the counseling office for more information or to pick up an application or applications may be obtained from www.ylfbham.org.
    • For more information about the Youth Leadership Forum contact the YLF office at 205.252.6559 or susiea@ylfbham.
    • Deadline to apply is Oct 1, 2018

 12th -  

  • DEADLINE Sept 29th - Senior portraits must be made at Belmont by this date.  Contact: Courtney at Belmont Studies (205)403-4020 regarding appts.
  • Visit the Senior section on the HHS PTO website for Senior Moms Pep Rally Dance Updates
  • DUE Oct 5th - Senior Slideshow pictures for the Senior Pep Rally.
    • Please email no more than five pictures to hhs-sga@homewood.k12.al.us 
    • Submit pictures from elementary, middle, and high school of you and other students.
    • Only group photographs will be used 
    • Poor quality pictures, screenshots, snapchat pictures etc. will not be used.
  • DUE Oct 5th - Senior yearbook ad materials as well as Quotes and Accomplishments forms and information are available in the library, in senior English classrooms, and in the Senior Class course on Schoology.  Please contact Mrs. Dameron-Vines with any questions.
  • Class of 2019 Fall Newsletter with dates, announcements, task lists, etc. to guide you through your Senior Fall.

 

********CONSTRUCTION UPDATE******** 

The construction bid has been accepted, equipment will be mobilized in late September, with active construction soon to follow. Future e-newsletters will feature progress details as they are made available; in the meantime, safety measures are in place, as well as a plan to relocate classrooms to alternate locations within the building if necessary due to an increase in noise level.

  • Friday, Sept 28th - Help chaperone or provide food for the After the Game Party at Trinity United Methodist Church (See INFORMED section above for event details). Here are the sign-ups for parent volunteers and food donations.
  • Late October - a chance to help students prepare for the real world by assisting with an Interview Day for seniors. Parents should contact Delisa Brooks, HHS Counselor and Career Coach at dbrooks@homewood.k12.al.us or at 205.871.9663 if interested.
